Entryway Inspiration

An entryway is the first impression guests get when coming into your home.  It is often the most forgotten space, but as a designer I stress to clients it is the place that really can tell a story about the people who live in the house. The smaller the space the larger story it needs to tell. So, I've listed five things to remember for decorating your entryway!

Things I Can't Live Without!

As my first entry into the blogosphere, I want to give everyone a sense of who I am.  So why not start with a list of ten things I absolutely can't live without?

1. William Thomas Martin III,  “Thomas” as he’s called...is my dear beloved cat. He is my child and trust me, he’s everything a child is and so much more. Admittingly, it’s my fault from the first week I rescued him from a family giving him to the pound, I’ve been giving him tuna from the can or even on occasions baked chicken ...so it’s no wonder he thinks of himself as English Royalty…but with a name like his….he has a lot of shoes or in his case “paws” to fill.

2. PartyFavors Cupcakes in Brookline. They make the best! Check them out online or call in an order...who know they might just ship!

3. The Inverted French Pleat has long been a way to add elegance and detail to anything from pants to curtains…when designing curtains it’s a must in my book. The Inverted French Pleat give the detail without all the fuss…whether needing a masculine touch in a handsome space or a soft frill in a beautiful space, I can always count on this invention to lend me a helping hand!

4. My monthly subscription to Veranda and Southern Living. Both amazing publications and truly inspirational to the mind, body and spirit!

5. A great pair of X-stools to rest for a moment in time. This piece of furniture has been around since the Egyptians and boy where they amazing for creating them then…and we're  even smarter for keeping them around now….Selecting them in the style and fabric is the hard part…tucking them in every place around your home so you can pulling them around the house to add extra seating is the fun part!

6. A Striking Bow Tie, A man looks the sharpest in a bow tie. As my dad always told me, "make someone proud of you.” I have to admit, in a bow tie, I’m always proud of myself! Or more importantly, I'm proud of myself for learning how to tie it...

7. A place for spiritual reflection…after moving from New Orleans to Boston a place to worship and sit in the quiet has become key to my sanity. Whether it’s sitting by a body of water or in a designated secular space….chose a place that gives you life!

8. A great copy of “Feeling Good”...paired with a wonderful glass of red wine, more particularly a recently discovered malbec from Argentina...put this song on repeat...and pour...a perfect ending to a stressful day...TRUST ME!

9. The Perfect Showerhead, After a long day or even to wake myself up in the early morning…the time in the shower is my time! Though I don’t have children, my cat seems to take the place just fine as mentioned before... It never fails Thomas will rush into bathroom demanding attention and I swear asking me a million questions, but I turn on the shower and he runs to hide…A moment of rest!

10. The color green! Either in Paint or brought to life with plants…Green is the color of life and just reminds me of the basics…No matter how much our lives change and we grow…Green brings me back to earth, time and time again…
